My Role
Creating wireframes to navigate the user journey and flesh out the overall architecture.
Conducting research and user testing to ensure harmony between the user’s needs and the business’.
Working side by side with visual designers and developers through the production process.
Learning From The Past
We began by auditing the original experience. Taking into account feedback from app reviews, tests/interviews conducted with users, and examining trends in the connected home space, the team began laying down the roadmap for the experience moving forward.
A New Architecture
After our research phase was complete, the decision was made to offer more than just control over the owner’s appliances. Users would now also be able to explore certain features of the app not only without an appliance, but without an account as well to get a sense of what the app had to offer before committing.
Usability Research
Throughout the process of design and production, I moderated several usability studies. Studies took place both in person (within our in-house labs) and online using usertesting.com. Participants were asked to complete a series of tasks using the prototype in partnership with a simulated appliance, and at the end of each task give their thoughts on ease of use and their emotional journey.
New And Improved
New Homefeed
The new JennAir home screen features recipes and articles crafted by our expert chefs that not only teach you how to prepare the meals, but also have the ability to automatically set the corresponding settings on your product to make the cooking process hassle-free.
the Culinary Center
The culinary center was introduced to the mobile app in correspondence with the connected appliances available to users. This space serves as the one-stop-shop for storing all brand crafted recipes, automated cooking cycles available on the products, and user generated creations to give easier access to your personal triumphs.
Threaded Cycle IA
To make setting your cycles less time consuming, the app now reflects the structure of setting the cycle on the physical appliance and condenses all settings into one screen.
Status, Reporting For Duty
The app still maintains the original capabilities of monitoring and controlling your connected appliances from anywhere.
The Final Product
In collaboration with the visual designer, the development team, the business team, and with support from ANML we were able to deliver our new design to the world with a much more positive response than its predecessor.
Versions are available on the Apple Store as well as Android.
